Cadre Brings Salvation to LDS 3PL Customers

LDS customers have needed a savior for years and Cadre Software saves the day by acquiring The LDS Corporation! LDS is one of the original three WMS providers for the 3PL industry and has a large 3PL customer install base. Over the last few years, the flagship product Accuplus has just aged and aged, while LDS tried to launch Verus, which would become the new flagship WMS product.

The launch of the Verus WMS was delayed multiple times over multiple years. The first version of the Verus product was too simplistic in functionality. In the mean time - this “waiting” customer install base started looking for alternatives – including other WMS solutions. IDII has consulted with a number of these 3PL companies running Accuplus over the last ten years and have helped them locate a solid WMS with strong functionality. LDS customers still on the Accuplus WMS needed salvation – which has now happened by the acquisition from Cadre Technologies!

Roger Rountree of Cadre and Phil Obal of IDII have discussed the acquisition. Here are some useful insights on what Cadre & LDS customers should expect….

1. Accuplus customers will continue to be supported from the Kansas City office. The Accuplus WMS product will continue to be developed and supported by the current staff.

2. Accuplus customers may leverage their investment when they are ready to upgrade to the Cadence Suite (WMS, OMS, Billing). Roger Rountree indicates that there is no pressure or time table – just when the customer wants advanced functionality that Cadence has and is ready to make the move.

3. Painless data conversion. When the customer chooses to move to Cadence, the conversion should have minimal impact, as the data conversion routines are refined and proven. Customers will need training on Cadence – especially on new modules and advanced functionality.

IDII sees Cadre’s acquisition of LDS as an extremely positive & strategic move for Cadre. First – Cadre gains a large install base that is extremely loyal. Second - Cadre’s background in wholesale distribution and entry into 3PL – is a good solid base to support a larger 3PL customer base. Lastly – Cadre is a conservative company that likes to please its customer base.

Technology & Software Product News

Click Commerce, Inc. (Nasdaq: CKCM) has released MOVE version 8.1 of its warehouse management software. MOVE 8.1 enables companies to offer innovative value added services and provides support for radio frequency identification (RFID) and voice-enabled operations in the warehouse.

MOVE 8.1's value added services provide companies a way to differentiate from their competitors by offering their customers unique capabilities. Some of these services include customer personalization, complex final assembly and light manufacturing operations, and support for reverse logistics requirements in the service supply chain.

This release also provides RFID capabilities integrated with basic warehouse operations such as receiving, putaway, picking and shipping, and is an upgrade to the Intelligent Supply Chain solution offered by Click Commerce. In partnership with Vue Technology, the Intelligent Supply Chain is a cost-effective, RFID-integrated solution that increases productivity and inventory accuracy in the warehouse. It also enables the ability to pull inventory through the supply chain network based on real-time demand demands to avoid stock-outs. The solution is designed to deliver increased customer service levels, and lower supply chain costs.

In addition, the release further enhances MOVE's voice functionality, which creates a dialogue between warehouse employees and MOVE. MOVE 8.1 utilizes a voice-directed interface that allows warehouse employees to speak vital warehouse information about inventory operations into a headset, rather than inputting the information into a cumbersome hand-held device. The solution, which includes technology from Vocollect, results in increased labor productivity, improved inventory accuracy, and better safety for the company's warehouse workers. Customers using the Click Commerce voice solution are experiencing productivity improvements within a short period of time.

RedPrairie Expands Labor Planning Horizon and Introduces the First Employee Report Card. Enhanced Capabilities are part of Major DLx® Labor 2006.1 Product Release.

The combined strategic and tactical labor demand planning capabilities in the 2006.1 release ensure workforce utilization is both demand-agile and optimized.”

The 2006.1 release has unique two-level demand planning functionality. A strategic planning tool enables long term resource planning based on historical patterns, seasonality and demand signals. It solves the challenge of establishing appropriate base staffing levels that are neither too high, causing increased non-productive time and poor utilization, or too low, which necessitates stop-gap measures such as overtime and temporary help.

The tactical planning and scheduling tool enables efficient resource deployment at the start of a day or shift and proactive redeployment during the working day as requirements change. This ensures the right number of workers with the right skills are available as order streams dictate to perform all tasks, including special packaging and value-added services.

Another unique feature of the demand planning functionality is an internal process dependency mapping capability which compensates for the fact enterprise demand planning and manufacturing systems only focus on product, not the impact on human resources in the distribution center. RedPrairie’s labor demand planning function uses a rules-based approach to translate demand signals and manufacturing schedules into specific workforce requirements.
