Manhattan Associates Keeps Moving - Part 1

Manhattan Associates continues to broaden their product offerings in both depth & breadth aspects. Manhattan is the leader in the Supply Chain Execution (SCE) software space and is well known for its WMS, TMS, and Trading Partner Management (TPM) suites.

New expanded application areas recently added include Distributed Order Management (DOM), Load Management / Yard Management (YMS), Reverse Logistics (via ReturnsCentral.com acquisition), and the expanded Transportation Management suite (expanded via the Logistics.com acquisition). At the end of March 2004, a “synchronized” release 2004R1, gave Manhattan’s customers new functionality for all of its products.

Judgment / Analysis

These new software acquisitions are very smart moves that deliver the business functionality (breadth and depth) that the market is looking for and enables Manhattan’s customers to leverage important & needed modules and a platform for their logistics execution and optimization, while continuing to provide additional revenue streams for Manhattan Associates. This are excellent moves to insure good long-term success, by (1) enabling the customer AND (2) producing additional revenue streams – all of which enables Manhattan to continue on a profitable course. In the diagram below, Manhattan has software for each of the colored circles, arrows, and boxes. We are seeing Manhattan & only a few other SCE vendors expand the breadth of offerings, to meet & exceed customer demands.

Did You Know? Multiple WMS Solutions

Manhattan has Warehouse Management solutions across three operating environments. On the IBM iSeries, Manhattan has an integrated WMS & TMS offering. In years past, IBM heavily targeted retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and manufacturers – therefore a large number of these companies are iSeries (AS/400) shops and want to stay that way. The iSeries computers are highly reliable and have a low total cost of ownership (TCO), basically a proven workhorse. Manhattan’s WMS & TMS for the iSeries is written in RPG, designed for Tier 1 & 2 companies, and constitutes 65% of Manhattan’s WMS installations. Current sales of all Manhattan’s WMS, indicate the trend on WMS for iSeries sales, is now accounting only for 20 - 25% of sales.

Manhattan’s “Warehouse Management for Open System” runs on UNIX & Windows platforms and targets Tier 1 & 2 companies. Open System WMS constitutes 29% of Manhattan’s WMS installations today and has approximately 65% of the WMS sales at Manhattan. Currently Open System WMS has over 40 companies live, with another 40+ that in-process on going live. There were 24 go-lives on this product alone in 2003!

Warehouse Management for Windows/.NET is developed on the .NET platform and utilizes the SQL Server database, targeted for Tier 2 & 3 companies at a lower price point.

Part 2 of "Manhattan Associates Keeps Moving" will be sent out next week.
