Techniques, Vision, & Educational Thoughts
"Modifications to the Product"
Shopping for New Software? Is that Vendor
Organized internally? Here is a good way
to find out!
Visit with the product development manager
and see what the next release
has in it.
If the next release is just a
bullet-pointed
list, then ask for the detailed
specifications.
Ask for the procedure and approval
process
of getting new major functions
added to an
existing module. One may determine
"how"
product or project orientated
a company is,
by seeing and touching the details
of the
next release details.
Note: If the details are not
fully specified,
then how are the testing and
documentation
groups to understand what the
new functions
are to do? The "beef"
is in the
details. It is 100% details or
a very "long-haul"
to get this future release into
production
status.
For a vendor to "resist" modifications
is actually a good thing. They should limit
the amount of modifications. We have seen
customer installations with over 1000 man-hours
of custom modifications. These customers
were NOT happy in the long term (for support)
and it was expensive for them to upgrade
every time. So limit your modifications and
it will improve your satisfaction with the
software you are installing!!!

- Retek Inc. (WMS, OMS, E-Commerce, Nasdaq:
RETK) announced Retek Collaborate, a communications platform
developed to support Voluntary Interindustry
Commerce Standards (VICS) Collaborative
Planning,
Forecasting, and Replenishment (CPFR®) guidelines for supply chain optimization.
This solution enables collaboration
between
buyers and sellers throughout the
retail
supply chain in areas such as sales
and order
forecasting, planning, exception
reporting,
and business trend analysis.
CPFR processes are designed to help
retailers
and their supply chain partners share
critical
information and develop joint plans
that
accurately reflect market demand.
Historically,
CPFR solutions have tended to focus
on shared
distribution center data, a complication
that had the potential to result
in large
discrepancies between retailer and
supplier
plans due to the aggregated nature
of the
information. The real value for retailers
and suppliers comes from shared visibility
to precise store level data -- allowing
a
manufacturer to better optimize plans,
and
leading to potentially huge savings
in production
costs.

service.
Vigilance provides a suite of web-based,
real-time SCEM applications that
enable managers
to define and personalize any event,
such
as late orders in customer service,
shipment
arrival or purchase order generation. Once defined, Vigilance immediately detects
exceptions to rules and enables people
to
notify all members of the community
affected
by the event, via any wireless device,
and
enables them to assign action items,
track
status and collaboratively resolve
issues.

planning, and decision support spectrum,
giving companies a comprehensive
view of
inventory, product flow, demand and
sales
across multiple e-commerce channels.

that
